Preparing your garden for spring
Soon spring will arrive, and you’ll get caught up in the frenzied seed-planting, plant-growing, and garden-nurturing activities as your garden comes back to life. Utilize the slower winter months to organise your thoughts and start planning for the upcoming planting season.
Now is the time to order seeds and bulbs for summer blooming; it’s the ideal project for a winter day. Remove leaves and other debris from flower beds and borders if the weather permits and you still want to spend time outside. Reduce the old, dead growth of perennials and grasses.
Backfill beds and borders with bare soil. Dig a 5 cm layer of organic stuff into the bare garden borders if the soil is workable.
If you have a greenhouse, now is the ideal time to give it a thorough cleaning in preparation for seedlings and cuttings in the spring. During the growing season, cleaning the exterior to get rid of moss, algae, and general dirt will let in more light.
