Stone vs Mulch in Plant Beds

Stone vs Mulch in Plant Beds

When landscaping your garden, you may wonder which material is going to be the most efficient to put down in flower beds, to help minimise the growth of weeds. The typical option is mulch, as it is usually the cheaper option, but it is the most cost-effective? When you put down mulch, you will have to replenished it much more often than you would rocks or stones because it will break down and decompose. So, even though rock may be a bit more expensive, you will need to top it up a lot less and there is greater variety to choose from.

Other benefits of stone over mulch are that the growth of fungi will be much less likely as stones dry out quicker than mulch. This could lead to healthier plants in the long run. Additionally, mulch will suck in and hold water, which makes it less likely to reach the ground and therefore roots of your plants.

Typically, you will find that stones will be a more efficient option and can offer a more tidy appearance.
